Summer Time!!
What's on the Calendar?
First the Weather
We have enjoyed a remarkably cool and wet Spring here in North Texas until the last few days. I am not complaining, but I am not happy with the humidity or the quantity of mosquitoes even though there seems to be no more or less than usual. My garden is extra lush (the neighbors would describe it as over-grown) which means that I have been able to collect nice sticks for future workshops. I also have ben able to dry lots of herbs and rose petals.
On the Road Again
Last summer, my residency at Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center1 kept us home. We enjoyed the steady pace and made the most of it. In contrast, this Summer and Fall are shaping up to be one long road trip. Or, two to be precise.
Over the last 10 or so years, my husband and I have made the long drive from Texas to Upstate New York. It all started when my friend, Stephanie Smith, introduced me to the Program Director at Silver Bay YMCA Camp at Lake George. It is a beautiful retreat center with a 120 year old Inn and cottages scatters around a small bay on a lovely lake. From the first year, it was always a delightful experience, even the year we caught COVID. Our arrangement works like this: I volunteer in the Textiles Studio, helping the weaving instructor 3-4 hours a day and we get to stay in the Inn. Some years, I have offered workshops, as well as drop-in weaving fun.

Speaking of History
A couple of years ago, The History Professor (my husband) was asked to give a talk on the American Revolution. He is scheduled to give several lectures this summer. We will make some stops along the way to see family and friends as well as historical, art, and craft centers along the way.

Post-Summer Plans
I am scheduled to teach two sessions of a Distaff Spinning Workshop for the Mountain and Valley Wool Association’s Fiber Festival.2 The organization has gone through some changes, including moving the venue from Santa Fe, NM to Durango, CO. We are already planning our route. I will have more information on this as we get closer to October.
