I have always liked teaching kids, especially middle schoolers. They are generally good humans and highly entertaining. High schoolers are fun in a different way, but I love them, too.
My first opportunity to teach Adult Art Workshops was with Oil and Cotton (13 years ago). I confess, not every workshop I have led was a booming success. I have learned a lot and grown to recognize that the reason most adults take an art class is because they are seeking something, some knowledge or experience, outside of their normal routine. I love the sense of community (however brief) that comes to a group of folks making something artful together.
This summer we won’t be traveling as much as in the past, so I am loading up the O&C calendar with classes and workshops. Here’s is a short list and descriptions.
Indigo again!
The first workshop was so much fun, Kayli and I couldn’t to wait to reschedule it. Brunch is included. Sunday June 11, 11am-1pm

Introduction to Spinning Wool
This is a repeat of the History Series (Fall of 2021) with a focus on practical matters, not that I won’t go on and on about textile arts throughout human history. I have some lovely British wools to try out,
as well as some soft, easy to spin roving.
Spindle included in the price! Sign up here.
Tween and Teen Textile Art Camps
Send me your cranky teens, we will put down our phones and pick up some ancient tools to make beautiful things with our hands! Snack of all kinds, too.
Two camps are on the calendar right now: Weaving and Felting. I hope to offer more later in the summer. Two consecutive afternoons for each camp: June 16-17th and June 22-23rd.
Sign up your tween/teen here for: Weaving or Felt-making.
This photo is from my very first weaving class for teens in 2010. Pictured here, is Meg Covington and Natalie Bradford, both of whom are not weavers but they did grown up to become amazing adults!
I am considering adding a paid subscription option soon. I don’t plan to have a pay wall (that would be more complicated than I can manage). I want to offer a paid choice so you, dear readers, can contribute to my work. Any funds raised would be plowed into the studio, scholarships and specific textile events.
