Dear reader, if you are tired of hearing about my infatuation with New Mexico feel free to skip this post.
Next week Bill, my spouse/sherpa/designated driver, and I will load up the car and drive West so that I can wallow in woolly fun at the 40th Mountain and Valley Wool Festival. For 38 years it was called the Taos Wool Festival and never managed to go.
Last year, we shuffled our schedule and made it for the 39th year. The organizers had moved it to Santa Fe for a number of reason, and it works well for us. You can read all about the fun we had here.
Last year, the organizers were looking for folks to demo skills, so, I volunteered to do a very short version of my Spinning History Workshop and added a distaff demo. Then I showed off my small collection of tape looms. I didn’t attend another demo, so I don’t know how mine compared, but I had blast and they asked me back.
This year, my dance card is pretty full. On Thursday, I am learning nålbinding, and teaching spinning. On Friday, I will be teaching spinning, again, at Espanola Fiber Arts Center. Next, setting up a make-and-take art table for kids for Saturday. My wonderful daughter, and her amazing partner, plan to run that gig. Then on Sunday- I will repeat my demos from last year. Sounds like a lot, but since it will be in Santa Fe (and not Dallas) I expect the pace to be pretty relaxed. For one thing, the festival runs from 10am-4pm so folks can get back to their lodging before the sidewalks are rolled up for the evening.
Next year, I hope some of you will come with me and indulge yourselves in the wonderful, funky world of wool (and alpaca) in New Mexico. I should mention the great music and food, too!!
Sounds like such fun!
