I have really enjoyed our monthly Friday Night Community Craft Circle gatherings but I aware that the schedule doesn’t work for everyone.
In April, a month made for Sunday Brunch, I propose that we gather on Sunday the 7th for brunch and fellowship. If the weather is balmy, we can open Oil and Cotton’s big doors and meet al fresco! Plan to meet from 10:30am- 12:30pm.
Please let me know if you plan to attend! If you come, please bring something yummy to share (or pitch in some cash). We also hope to see your handiwork (of any kind, including drawing). This is a great time to share ideas and get informal help on techniques.
My next workshop will be on April 14th. Here is the blurb:
Fairy tales are not always about love, as we have been told,
they are about spinning yarn.
Rumpelstiltskin, Sleeping Beauty, Arachne, Ananzi, Friga's Distaff all share a theme, the best spinner gets the power. The workshop will begin with the history and culture of this ancient and universal craft then continue with a hands-on lesson in making yarn from wool.
For more information (and to sign up!) Go to the Oil and Cotton webpage.
An extra cool workshop in April!!
My dear friend, Delaney Smith-Vaughn is leading a two day intensive workshop all about Osage Orange. I plan to be the Host and Teaching Assistant for most of the weekend.
This will be April 6 and 7th. If you come to the brunch this could make for a long day, but how fun to go from brunch with knitting &/or spinning to elbows deep in Osage Orange dye?
Osage wood-chips produce an intoxicating range of beautiful yellows, a little goes a very long way. I especially love using dye stuff that is native to Texas. I grew up calling the them Bois d’arcs and Horse Apples. I especially and love the gnarly trunks and huge, sticky green fruits. They are not a common in the city as they once were.
Raise your hand if you ever got in a dodge-ball game with your cousins using horse apples?
I hope to see you at one of the fun textile events on the calendar!
And, save May 11th for the Oil and Cotton Summer Mercantile and Student Art Show. I am planning to have a dye pot (maybe cochineal, maybe pecan?) going all afternoon. More details soon.
Please let me know if you have any questions, suggestions or concerns!!
I’m in for brunch on 4/7. 😻
