First a bit of business. We finally have name for the Loom Loft/weaving studio/upstairs/ June’s hideout inside Oil and Cotton:
Welcome to The Fiber Arts Living Room!
Last year, during the Oil and Cotton Holiday Mercantile, I fielded many questions about the loom, the wheels, and all the stuff in my space. I was not able to show anyone how they work because I was responsible for a kid’s make-and-take as well as coffee, logistics and so on.
This year the Mercantile will be on December 10th. We have a strong slate of artist-teachers who will be showing and selling lovely handmade objects: ceramics, textiles, candles, paintings, jewelry and more.
For the event, I plan to set up a space where my students and co-conspirators can show off spinning and weaving skills. We could call it a sheep to shawl, but we may just want to call it a Weave-in.
The space will be full of people (and live Holiday music) from 10am until 6pm. Pick an hour or two and come play! I think the space will comfortably accommodate 3-4 Fiber Artists per hour. Please let me know what you would like to do (or learn) that day!
Here are my ideas:
use hand carders on wool or cotton
spin some wool on the Clemmes and Clemmes wheel
demo spindle spinning
spin cotton on the Great Wheel and/or spindles
blend fibers on the drum carder for the spinners
Help to weave a skinny shawl on the floor loom (an Anni Albers inspired project)
weave on one of the tapestry looms: either a community project or as a demo
knit or crochet your own project (Pat W)
weave on the tape looms I started for the NM Wool Festival
I have invitedMelanie Sanford and Victoria Owens to come hold a small trunk show, too.
Please reply in the comments if you would like to come play!
I wish I could but you are too far away! 😭
